4 Tips for Finding or Creating Your Dream Yoga Studio

Whether you are just starting out on your quest to set up your own yoga business or whether you are a veteran of the game, it may be time for you to consider a new sanctuary in which to base your yoga classes. We all know that the best spaces that are most conducive to a positive yoga experience are sparse, minimal, quiet and calm. However, many city dwellers make no qualms about hot-footing it to the urban-based classes out of convenience. Although based in the center of town, these spaces can also emulate a sensation of tranquility. Take a look at what you should be looking out for when sourcing your dream yoga space.

Location

It really doesn’t matter whether you are basing your business in the peaceful rolling hills of the countryside or in the middle of the most cosmopolitan and noisy city. The most important thing is that when you enter your yoga studio, all the noises, smells and bright lights of the outside are banished. You should be greeted with subtle hues of colour, a Buddha statue or two, some calming incense and a smiling yogi. Yoga is all about leaving the stresses and strains of daily life outside of the studio and maintaining a sense of calmness as you take part in learning some new postures and breathing exercises to aid your relaxation.

The Space

The more air and lightness you can achieve in your premises the better. High ceilings create a feeling of space and prevent your students from feeling claustrophobic. If you’re tempted to self-build, look into the advantages of DIY steel building construction to keep costs down. You’ll be able to work to a set budget and achieve a wholly bespoke finish to your studio, from the amount of square footage you draw up in the blueprint to the number of restrooms you provide.

Accessories

Not to be overlooked are the furnishings and accessories that you put into your space. Think about what is at the heart of your yoga studio’s ethos and try to emulate this in your decoration and design. If you are keen to show off the influences you picked up when travelling to a yoga retreat in Thailand, adorn your walls with Eastern designs. If you are keen for an extreme minimal look, opt for clinical white to promote feelings of calmness within your students.

Lighting

Strobe lighting does not make for a relaxing environment. Opt for subtle spotlights, select off-white or yellow hued bulbs and don’t be afraid to use a dimmer switch or two. The ambience can be set by lighting alone. Add a few mirrors to your studio space and linen drapes to your windows to bounce the light around. Keeping every aspect of your space minimalistic will prevent your students from becoming distracted from their meditation sessions.

Sourcing any business premises has its challenges. However, when setting up a yoga class, you need to have the essence of calmness and spirituality at the center of every decision you make. Only by doing this will you locate the perfect yoga studio space for you.
