There will be a time in everyone’s lives where they fall in love with a hobby or activity. It will happen once in your life and you will begin to wish you could do this particular thing all day every day for the rest of your life.
It may be that you love to sit down and be creative, putting pen or paint to paper and expressing yourself visually, it could be that you long to perform on stage in front of thousands of people every night, or maybe you are business savvy and would one day like to open your own hr consultancy. Whatever your passion is, you’ll know that the mere thought of it fills you with joy and enthusiasm, and after a while you may want to turn your love into a business. But how?
First of all, you must think about what makes you unique. Out of all of the people in the world who love to do the same hobby as you, why will you in particular be able to profit from it? What sets you apart from thousands of other people around the world? Once you’ve answered this question, only then can you begin to build your business idea.
Take some time to think about what is it that you love about what you do. What aspects of it make you excited to get up in the morning, and how you could offer something new and unique to others around the world who love it too.
Take yoga, for example. There are thousands of traditional yoga studios all over the world, and you could go to any of these and get the same experience. If you really want to drag people away from the traditional and bring them to you, you need to offer something new, unique and quirky. You need to spark a conversation and generate interest in your unique take on the practice. For example, in London there is a studio who offers dog yoga. You take your dog to the class and practice yoga with them. Or, there is another studio which offers beer yoga, where you can enjoy a refreshing pint while standing in warrior formation. These are unique and have sparked interest from people and the media alike, and it is this kind of thing you want to offer.
Ask For Help
The reason that many dreamers like yourself have never managed to get that business idea off the ground is simply that you haven’t ever asked for help. You may be an expert in your field, but do you know anything about starting up a business? Don’t feel stupid for seeking advice from someone in the industry, it could be that with their help you can finally get your project up and running.
Work Hard
Opening up a business is not easy, and it can be very overwhelming when you see a list of everything you need to do to make your dreams a reality. However, you are never going to make it and be free of your old 9-5 if you don’t put in the hours to achieve it. It may sound ominous, but every waking hour should be spent working on your project. Going over website designs, business models and building a following on social media. If you are truly passionate with this project, you should be willing to put in the work.
Celebrate Small Wins
So what if your project will take you a year to complete? Split it down into manageable tasks, and every time you complete one of those tasks give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back. It might only be one stepping stone towards your end goal, but it is still something you should be proud of. Giving yourself the incentive to carry on with small rewards is what will get your through and keep your mind positive as you work to achieve your goals.
Write a Business Plan
If you hate making plans, you need to start learning to love them: because solid plans are what will get you through the tasks ahead of you. Building a business from scratch is one of the most drawn out and complex tasks you will ever have to complete, which is why making a clear plan with your tasks split into sections, deadlines made and meetings prepared will make things much easier for you as you start that journey. Leave no stone unturned as you write down every aspect of the business, every logo idea, every font and every last detail to make your venture a reality. Take the time to budget for the upcoming months and truly plan out how you will achieve your end goals.
Spread The Word
Once you are ready to launch, make sure you shout it from the rooftops and share content on social media, contact the press and give a statement, and even get in touch with local bloggers and invite them for a first look at your new business.
