This week on the podcast I am joined by Kristen Williams. Kristen is the founder of K10 Yoga Coop, the Winston Salem Yoga Festival and Yoga Evolving Now. She has traveled the world and is passionate about bringing community together through yoga!

On this episode, we talk about how Kristen has combined her love of yoga with her love of travel, the process of starting a yoga coop, what it’s been like to start a yoga festival from scratch, and the business lessons she’s learned through all of her different ventures.

Enjoy!

Business Lessons From This Episode:

  • Having teachers in training working in a yoga coop model helps them learn how to market their classes and think entrepreneurially. They learn what goes into filling up a class and how to maximize the rewards from bringing in a full class.
  • Teaching internationally is attractive and can be really positive, but it is important to think about the impact you are having when you’re trying to travel and teach, and not to assume that the things you teach at home will make the most sense for people from different places.
  • There are lots of small details that go into running a yoga festival or any yoga event. From design to planning, to getting city permits and insurance, you need to make sure you’re organized and have a lot of time to prepare for small issues that will come up. Get started early and allow time for new challenges to come up along the way.
  • Asking for help is really important as a yoga professional. Kristen talks about how she has someone helping her with her teacher training for the first time and how much that has helped her. It takes trust, but it has the chance to pay off in a big way. If you’re finding it hard to manage your workload or finish all the projects you have on your plate, don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  • Getting clear on your budget is very empowering. When you get started it can be tempting to not dive in, but knowing where you’re spending your money and where you are bringing in money is going to help you make much better decisions in your business.
  • And much more… Here’s the episode!
