This week on the podcast I am joined by Ariel Garten!

Ariel is probably one of the most interesting people you’ll ever meet! She is a psychotherapist, a neuroscientist, a mom, a former fashion designer, and the co-founder of Muse. Muse tracks your brain during meditation to give you realtime feedback on your meditation to guide you into the zone! Muse lets you know when your brain waves have gotten to that phase of relaxation and helps you stay there.

In this episode, Ariel and I dive into the science of meditation, the major benefits of a regular meditation practice and how tips for how to start practicing meditation regularly. We also dive into the business side of creating Muse. Ariel shares what it has been like to create a tech product, what it was like to market it, how she’s been able to be a part of the company’s growth and much more.

Enjoy!

Discussed in this episode:

  • Ariel’s background and the journey that led to her starting Muse
  • Connecting art, science, and technology to create a product that can help you learn more about your own brain (and eventually creating Muse)
  • Walking through the science of meditation and how it helps develop our attention and mindfulness while reducing our fight or flight responses
  • How meditation can change your brain over time
  • How can you set yourself up for success when it comes to starting a meditation practice
  • How does Muse help with developing and advancing a meditation practice
  • What was the process of going from idea to product
  • How to adapt and grow with a growing business
  • Ariel’s lessons that she learned as she grew with the company and moved out of the CEO role for maternity leave
  • How are yoga studios using Muse in meditation classes
  • Muse’s new sleep device
  • Ariel’s tip for moving past fear.
    • Freedom is on the other side of fear. Fear is this false feeling that holds us back in every dimension of life. The feelings of fear that are holding you back from connecting with others, from starting a new business, from doing whatever it is, aren’t based on real risk. You can feel them, accept them, and move beyond them to find freedom.
  • And much more…Here is the episode!
