This week on the podcast I am joined by Meghan Pherrill from Balance by Meghan. Meghan and I had the pleasure of co-leading a retreat together in Costa Rica this past fall and we had a BLAST! While we were on retreat, Meghan led an amazing session on social media, and on this episode, she dives into some of the content that she taught.
In this episode, we cover Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn and TikTok and how yoga teachers can use each one to their advantage. Meghan has tips for each platform, how to optimize them, why we should be on them as a yoga teacher, and much more.
Enjoy!
Discussed in this episode:
- How Meghan found yoga and the transformative effect it had on her life
- Why Meghan decided to start Balance by Meghan
- How social media helps yoga teachers connect and help others
- Why it’s important to explore and try different social media platforms
- How to get started with using Instagram to connect with new clients (from planning content to using hashtags)
- Using hashtags helps new people find your posts, so make sure to use hashtags that describe your content. Instagram has a limit of 30 hashtags, but you shouldn’t use more than 27 as Instagram can view your account as spammy if you’re always using a max amount of hashtags
- Post consistently, posting 4 or 5 times a week helps people learn more about you and connect with you
- Tips for improving engagement on Instagram and other platforms Using stories to post more day to day content and share your posts
- When you’re sharing links to take you off the platform, put the links in the comments (this also applies on Facebook)
- If you’re putting a video up on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, upload it to each platform (instead of just sharing it on one and then linking on the others)
- Creating a business page on Facebook and post daily about content related to what you specialize in (even if it’s a quote or a message about something else you’re doing) and share it on your personal profile
- Genuinely engage with other peoples content on social media (in groups, on posts, etc.)
- Remembering that building a yoga business, and using social media as a way to help, is a long-term project
- How you can get value from using Twitter
- Remember that the people that get value from one social media platform aren’t the same as on others. There are people who love Twitter and people who love Instagram, usually, they aren’t the same people.
- Writing short tweets about the same topics you are creating content about on other platforms is a great way to direct people to your videos and other content
- Why creating YouTube videos can be a great way to connect with new clients on YouTube
- How it’s easy to overlook, but Pinterest can create value for your business
- Why you shouldn’t overlook Tic-Toc because only young people seem to care about it
- Get an account and check out what is popular and how people are using it. Think about ways you can incorporate what is growing on Tic-Toc with the topics you care about
- Tips:
- Take time one day a week to plan out the different content you want to post on different platforms
- Take time in the morning and evening on the platform you want to focus on to engage with people on social media
- Get Meghan’s PDF Checklist for social media at: balancebymeghan.com/socialmedia
- Connect with Meghan on all social platforms at Balance by Meghan
- And much more…Here is the episode
