M.B.Om has a new intro, is a part of a new network, and has a new sister podcast hosted by Amanda Kingsmith called Matcha Mornings!
On this bonus episode of M.B.Om, you’ll get to hear the 2nd episode of Matcha Mornings on Ayurveda with Kim Fenton from Get Your Life Together Yoga. Kim is a 500-hour RYT and an Ayurveda Yoga Specialist from Buffalo, NY.
Kim and I break down Ayurveda, including talking about what Ayurveda is, why it’s important, and how you can start implementing basic Ayurvedic practices into your life. We also talk about Doshas, how to find out your Dosha, how to balance your Doshas, and how what we’re eating, how we’re sleeping, and the rhythms of the seasons can impact our health and happiness.
Discussed in this Episode:
- How Kim got introduced to Ayurveda
- Kim became an Ayurveda Yoga Specialist at the Himalayan Institute
- What is Ayurveda and why we should learn about it
- Ayurveda is an ancient wisdom that talks about how the 5 elements are the tools that help us understand and read our bodies
- In Ayurveda, food is medicine!
- We each have our own ratio of the 5 elements, and that is broken down into “Doshas”
- The 3 Doshas are Vata, Kapha and Pitta – each of us have all of these in different ratios, but we can get out of balance with them based on food we’re eating and time of year
- We have a Dosha from birth, but we can also have symptoms of other Dosha’s that show up during points in our lives
- What Vata, Kapha & Pitta signify and how to start to differentiating which Dosha(s) you are
- Like attracts like & like increases like, so we need to find a balance between doing the things we enjoy, but not overdoing it
- Ayurveda uses opposite therapy to describe traits and then look at bringing in the opposite qualities through food and lifestyle
- During different times of the year, there are more of the elements present and that will impact us in how we feel, what we eat, etc.
- You can practice balancing yoga and eat for the seasons to stay in tune and not end up out of balance in the seasons
- You can use a physical yoga practice to help balance your Doshas during seasons, but also during times of imbalance
- You can start adding Ayurveda into your daily routine with tongue scrapping, warm lemon water, Netti pot, dry brushing, and oil massage.
- Banyan Botanicals is a great starting point for Ayurveda products and herbs
- If you don’t have 3 hours, you can do some really impactful stuff in 3 minutes!
- And much more… Here’s the episode!
