This week on the podcast I am joined by Trish Tutton from Banff, AB! I met Trish back in 2014 when I started working for lululemon and she was the Banff store’s ambassador. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Trish step into her niche of corporate mindfulness and really grow her business.
On this episode we talk about Trish’s journey as a yoga teacher, discovering her love of meditation and mindfulness, how she has taken her business into local corporations, tips for become a corporate yoga and mindfulness teacher and much more.
Enjoy!
Business Lessons from this Episode:
- Trish never intended to become a yoga teacher after she complete her teacher training, but after an opportunity to teach yoga at a corporate conference, she put together a program about bringing mindfulness to work including presentations and workshop presentations—and now she’s a yoga entrepreneur.
- Consider your yoga teacher and what they have to share. Who is the teacher, what have they got to offer, what is their depth of training and knowledge, do you feel a connection with them.
- Things to look for in a meditation teacher:
- Are they clear? Can they explain concepts with clarity?
- Do they have the ability to hold and to create space that’s conducive for people to drop in to a place of stillness within themselves?
- When it comes to your business, follow where life wants to take you, listen and take opportunities as they come
- If you can put all your unique gifts, talents and knowledge together—how do they add up to a unique offering? There’s your niche
- Live life a little differently, how can we find a way to savour every moment of our life and our work. Trish says mindfulness has allowed her to do this. She says mindfulness is a “magic tool for us to all use”
- CEOs and executives are taking up meditation practice and makes them more successful, productive and creative. Do they meditate because they’re successful or are they successful because they meditate?
- If teachers want to pitch to corporate clients, include research-based information on what they can expect their employers to receive. Also explain that not all yoga means you need a mat or to change your clothes, there’s a lot of yoga stretches you can do in your office. You don’t need to be or look a certain way to practice yoga or mindfulness, you just need a ‘mind’ and ‘thoughts’
- Yoga is about perspective; whatever challenges we have in our way we have tools and teachings that can help us to manage those challenges
- Reach out for help if you need it, don’t just try and do everything on your own
- Try to remember where you’ve been and where you’ve come and not just have the lens on, looking to the future
- Trish shared some information she learned from someone: Make a list of goals, but every other one has to be something you’ve already accomplished. It also becomes a gratitude exercise.
- And much more… Here’s the episode!
