This week on the podcast I am joined once again by Sytera Field. When Sytera joined me on the podcast back in 2016, she was only teaching private yoga. In 2018, she opened her studio, SyteraYoga, and hasn’t looked by since then.

On this episode, we talk about what has shifted for Sytera’s business over the last 1.5 years, what she has learned as a yoga studio owner and more. We also talk about her latest endeavor, which is developing the Nadi Ball and the Nadi & Nice method of body rolling. After many years of teaching yoga with massage balls, Sytera decided to develop her own, and she also shares the long and challenging process of developing your own product, including the business lessons she’s learned along the way.

Enjoy!

Discussed in this episode:
  • What change has happened in Sytera’s studio and business over the last 1.5 years
  • What has set SyteraYoga apart from other studios and allowed them to outgrow their first space and move into a bigger space
  • Communication is key to being a successful yoga teacher and studio owner
  • You need to understand where your teachers are at and what their goals are and if that aligns with your studio or not
  • You also need to pay attention to your students and understand what they’re looking for out of classes
  • You need to be clear about your intentions and offerings – you can’t be everything to everybody
  • It’s important to honor the individual in each pose, which means that sometimes the poses look differently than they were traditionally practiced
  • What it was like to develop the Nadi Ball and the Nadi & Nice method
  • It took almost a year to find a manufacturer for the Nadi Ball
  • You have to find a manufacturer that has the quality that you want, which is the hardest part
  • There is a reason why there is a business for imports and exports! If you want to do this yourself, you need to be prepared for the challenges and the learning curve that comes with it.
  • Creating videos and trainings are a way for people to be able to learn how to do stuff from classes from the comfort of their homes
  • Investing in something like creating a product can be scary, but you need to trust your gut and if your gut says you should go for it, then do it. You have to invest in your business to be successful!
  • And much more… Here’s the episode!
